HANDOUT FOR OUR GUESTS

The apartment has been recently renewed and furnished – we hope you will like it and that it will make your time in Venice more enjoyable.
To make sure that your stay is carefree and the apartment will stay in its wonderful current state for as long as possible, we provide you with this short guide to the apartment’s correct use.

If you have any further questions, please send us an e-mail at hello@cannaregio4627.com

Lift:

Always close the inner door after yourself before ascending or descending. If the door remains open, the lift will be inoperable. Wait for the loud clacking sound before opening the door, or it might jam, forcing you to go back down again.

Apartment door:

It opens with the middle, longer key. You can close the door by turning it to the right, gently, up to four times. To open the door, half an extra turn is required. Warning: It may be useful to gently pull the door your way with your left hand to make sure the door opens lightly and effortlessly. It might take a little patience and/or sensitivity.

Waste Separation:

is a delicate and important matter in Venice. Please put your trash downstairs under the letterboxes on the ground floor in the evening (after 10 pm) or in the morning (8 am) to ease collection. THESE TIMES ARE MANDATORY. The inhabitants of the house will complain otherwise. Every day, except Sundays, the door rings at 8:10 for waste collection.

MIXED or ORGANIC WASTE are collected daily, with the exception of Sundays.

PAPER and CARTON are collected Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

PLASTIC, ALUMINIUM and GLASS are collected Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

For every garbage bag that is not disposed of at the end, a fee of 10 € is required. (Unfortunately, this fee is necessary after a series of bad experiences!)

WI-FI:

The Wi-Fi password can be found on the wall above the telephone (+39 041 45 85 788) in the entrance.

There are two Soundboxes:
the mobile one, in blue –Megaboom3- needs you to download an App to be able to connect to it via Bluetooth.
The other one, fixed and installed in the entrance, is called Room1 and it is possible to connect to it via Bluetooth as soon as you’re in the Wi-Fi network.

Air Conditioning:

The AC can be accessed in every room via a remote. The same remote works on every one of the three different devices located in the countertop in the entrance.

Heating:

Heating can be controlled centrally through a keypad in the entrance, provided all heaters are turned on. There is a tutorial on our website, in the “Facilities” page, at the bottom of it, which should answer all your questions. If it gets too warm or too cold, the set temperature can be modified manually by turning it up or down.

Windows:

The windows can be pushed forward on the right side. Warning: for this to happen effortless, the left side needs to be shut. Do not fully open a window that has been pushed forward, or it may get unhinged at the top. All windows are fitted with mosquito nets. If you decide to keep your window open during the evening, make sure the net is on. But beware: they are very tightly set up. To remove them, slowly pull them down and towards you to make sure they roll up without being damaged.

In case of heavy rain: Please close all shutters on the northern side and facing the balcony, the one between the fridge and the cutlery cupboard, all shutters in both bedrooms.

Kitchen:

The fridge dispenses cold water (it needs to be refilled, right door) or ice, in cubes or crushed (left door). To refill, it is necessary to take a jug and carefully pour water from above through a grate in the tank below. Warning: do not pour too much water and pour in the back. If an ice sheet were to form, the ice crusher could not do its job properly.

The Espresso-Machine needs to be turned on, after having checked the water level in the back. Select the filter you prefer and put it in (the smaller it is, the more “espresso” the coffee gets), grind fresh coffee by pressing lightly the filter inside the machine. The grinder is right next to it, magnetically fixed to the machine. The ground coffee needs to be pressed firmly, otherwise it won’t produce its wonderful “crema”. Put the tool back on the right, then put a coffee cup underneath. Select the number of desired cups, after which it is possible to foam the milk. On the right, change the mode on the machine from “stand by” to “hot steam”. Direct the foamer towards the most external grate, so as to allow the hot water to pour. You’ll hear a knocking sound and see the vapor produced by the milk’s foaming. Right before overcooking, put the knob on the side back in “stand by” mode and set the milk jug to the side. Turn the milk foamer over the grate again to quickly rinse in the “hot steam” mode again. Finally, turn the entire machine off. (There is a tutorial for this on our website, in the “Facilities” page, right at the bottom).

The oven is more or less self-explanatory, yet set to the German language. Under “oven settings” you can select above- or beneath-heat, ventilation, ventilation with vapor (for which is necessary to fill in water in the round tray on the right), or pizza-mode. Confirm by pressing “ok”. It is also possible to set different timers.

The stoves are easy to utilise with an automatic ignition. Warning: the metal handles of pots and pans can easily become very hot. Remember to use potholders when grabbing them. They hang on the right of the cooking isle.

The cupboard above the sink is perfect to dry washed dishes and cutlery.

The cupboard below the sink holds the waste bin, next to it you can find several waste bags and tabs for the dishwasher. (When used, please buy new ones!). We try to avoid plastic bags when not absolutely necessary.

The cupboard under the oven and the microwave holds a “technical drawer” with everything that you may need. Explore it!

Lights:

Next to the microwave you’ll find a movable, round knob to turn on the light on the kitchen workstation. Light over the cooking isle can be turned on from the entrance and you will find several intensity- and colour-settings for it, which will work if the option is turned on via remote.

Video/Beamer Screen:

It is enough to pull its string to unravel it and it can be set in different positions. There are remotes for every device:

  • White: for the ceiling-mounted ACER Beamer

  • Black (large) for the YAMAHA Soundbox

  • Black for the HUMAX TV satellite receiver

  • Black (small and flat) with three keypads for the Switch, to which one can connect –according to the need- the DVD Player in the bedroom or a personal computer.

  • Black (with a key circle) for the Amazon Fire TV stick: Access code: 4321.

Every device (aside from the Switch) has to be manually turned on.

The Yamaha Soundbox needs to be on HDMI, if it has to be linked to the beamer.

On the Switch, it is necessary to select which data source one needs among the TV receiver, the Fire Stick or a personal computer (the TV receiver is unfortunately not yet operational!)

The Beamer marks the available data sources (HDMI and with a green dot) which can be selected. The easiest way is, via the remote (the one with the key circle) to connect to the internet through the Amazon Stick. If the homepage is not available, then connect to the internet via the App and then give in the access code (as said: 4321). Once connected, you can watch movies or series through your own Netflix account or watch the channels included in the Fire Stick, among which ARTE, ARD and ZDF.

Guest WC:

Do not worry if you won’t find a switch outside of it. The light on the ceiling turn on and off automatically based on movement. The mirror- and wall-lights need to be turned on manually, preferably without messing up the switches.

Bathroom:

Be patient with warm water. It comes from the kitchen, on the other side of the apartment. It will eventually get warm!

After showering, clean the glass wall with the wiper you’ll find hung above the shower curtain. Otherwise, the glass won’t stay neat too long!

Please close the wooden seat with its handle after showering and simply let it rest against the wall with the mosaic, to better maintain it.

If you need clean towels, you can find them in the smallest of the two white closets in the entrance. In the bathroom you’ll find a laundry basket, if the towels happen to be dirty.

Terrace:

More teak chairs and a sun umbrella are available and can be found behind the wardrobe in the adjacent bedroom. Behind the curtain in the entrance, on the top shelf, you’ll also find teak oil and a brush, next to other cleaning supplies.

Pidgeons and seagulls, despite the vicinity of the altana, have the annoying tendency to leave their droppings on the terrace occasionally. The best way to deal with it is kitchen towels and warm water to rapidly and neatly remove every trace of dirt.
